The Future?

I guess, if I’m desperate, there’s hope!  Someone is hiring: (They sure do look like a happy group!)

House defeats bill to delay digital TV transition

by Bob 28. January 2009 13:18

OK - How many people realize how much of our GDP is spent on delays of various sorts?  I'm not an economist, but i'm sure it is a huge number.

When I read that the House Republicans managed to stop a bill aimed at delaying the DTV (Digital TV) transition, I was not bothered in the least.   This transition has been talked about, delayed, talked about and delayed God knows how many times!  Let's just get on with it.

Sure, I'm looking out for myself:  I DO NOT want to see anymore commercials telling me how to prepare!  Let's just pull the plug on the old and move forward.  For those NOT prepared, well, I guess when the static appears on their screens on 2/17/09 they can come out of the cave they have been in and figure it out.

Good job House GOP.  Let's move on, don't we have more important things to worry about?

Windows Mobile - Relevant?

by Bob 27. January 2009 15:25

Often times I'm accused of being so "yesterday" when I use my Verizon Wireless XV6800 which has Windows Mobile 6.1 running on it.  Most of my friends have moved on to iPhone land, and as a result, they just can't fathom why I'd stay with Windows Mobile.  I've been using PDAs with Microsoft OS's since my first monochrome Philips Nino:

I've lost track of how long this has been, but I'm guessing since the late 90s.  I've modernized every 18 months or so and have seen the progression of Microsoft in the mobile space.  I've "been there and done that" in the mobile space!

The iPhone fanboys are all about the glitz and glamour of an iPhone, not the substance of the device.  So, as my friends talk about how cool the iPhone is, they skip over the areas it doesn't do well in (see previous posts for details!)

Finally some web reviewers and commenters are starting to come to the rescue of the lowly old Windows Mobile operating system and speaking in terms of reality versus "cool factors."  It is refreshing to say the least. Here's a link to one of the better written commentaries on the situation, take a read yourself:

Personally, I will admit the user interface for Windows Mobile is getting old, but old like a leather briefcase or distressed wood: dings and abrasions abound - but in a classy way.  I'm waiting for the new; but admiring the qualities of what I have.

iPhone - 10 Gripes?

by Bob 20. January 2009 17:12

I've been absent here, but never fear, I'm always on the lookout for reasons to not adopt the "Kool-Aid" otherwise known as the iPhone!

A blog that I follow, boygeniusreport.com , has their "Top 10 Things We Hate" post to help illustrate the missing functionality from that device.  Of course, the lack of Bluetooth Stereo, not mentioned by boygenius is one of my biggest complaints.

Go check out the story for yourself, and if you are like me and using the Windows Mobile platform take a moment to remind yourself that we've had much of this "missing functionality" for years now.
